Job description

Innovation & Technology @ Berenberg
In an era where digitalisation and modern IT infrastructures are revolutionising banking, we are shaping a technology-driven bank where you, as an IT professional, work closely with our business divisions. Our Technology teams offer you an environment that presents exciting challenges – whether by supporting and further developing legacy systems or introducing modern technologies such as AI, machine learning, and highly automated trading applications.

Our IT department, comprising approximately 300 employees, largely operates using an agile Scrumban approach, covering areas such as Cloud Computing, Cybersecurity, Operations, Process and Governance, Software Development, and Architecture. We are particularly proud of developing almost all our applications in-house, which grants us unique flexibility and innovative strength. Our tech stack includes modern technologies like Java, Kotlin, TypeScript, and Python, CI/CD pipelines, containers, Kubernetes, as well as Azure Cloud, Azure SQL Database, and Oracle Database with PL/SQL.

What you can expect from us

Your role in the team
With us, you're part of a strong cloud-native team that makes real successes possible with modern technologies like Kubernetes, Terraform and CI/CD – and plenty of automation.
Working alongside colleagues from Development, Architecture, and Security, you will shape solutions that define the banking of tomorrow. We are driven not just by technology, but above all by our team spirit.
You can further develop your cloud expertise and, together with us, shape the next stage towards AIOps, FinOps, and future-proof DevOps environments.
We work closely together, support each other and celebrate our successes - both in everyday work and beyond. Whether it's sharing knowledge, having lunch together or participating in a Mario Kart tournament: fun is never neglected here!

Your tasks include

  • Setting up and maintaining cloud infrastructure for applications based on microservices architectures, containers, and cloud platforms (e.g. Kubernetes, Docker)
  • Automated provision and management of infrastructure using tools like Terraform & Pulumi
  • Use of orchestration solutions like Kubernetes for efficient deployment, scaling and management of container applications
  • Structure and maintenance of automated build, test, and deployment pipelines (Continuous Integration/Continuous Delivery)
  • Management and optimisation of a highly available IT landscape with a focus on security, compliance, monitoring, scalability, and resilience
  • Developing robust and scalable Python scripts that don't buckle under peak loads and errors

What you bring with you

  • Completed degree in (Business) Informatics, IT training or comparable qualification
  • Experience with modern DevOps practices and tools, and a passion for continuously optimising processes (Experience with Azure DevOps or Bamboo desirable)
  • Experience in the operation and automation of cloud platforms (e.g. K8s, Google Cloud, STACKIT, Azure or comparable), minimum one provider.
  • Initial knowledge of Infrastructure as Code (e.g. Terraform, Ansible, Pulumi) or equivalent, as well as monitoring (e.g. with Grafana and Prometheus)
  • Team spirit, agile working methods, willingness to learn – and preferably Mario Kart skills too
  • Good written and spoken German and English skills
