(Senior) Project Manager Banking

Job description

Innovation & Technology @ Berenberg

In an era where digitalisation and modern IT infrastructures are revolutionising banking, we are creating a technology-driven bank where you, as an IT professional, will work closely with our business divisions. Our technology teams offer you an environment that presents exciting challenges – whether through supporting and developing legacy systems or introducing modern technologies such as AI, machine learning and highly automated trading applications.

Our IT department, comprising approximately 300 employees, largely operates with an agile Scrumban approach, covering areas such as cloud computing, cybersecurity, operations, process and governance, software development, and architecture. We are particularly proud to develop almost all of our applications in-house, which lends us unique flexibility and innovative strength. Our tech stack includes modern technologies like Java, Kotlin, TypeScript, and Python, CI/CD pipelines, containers, Kubernetes, as well as Azure Cloud, Azure SQL Database, and Oracle Database with PL/SQL.

What you can expect from us

You are part of a dedicated team driving forward central projects in regulation and digitalisation, actively shaping the digital future of one of Europe's most renowned private banks. In your role, you will take responsibility for business-critical regulatory projects and strategic digitalisation initiatives, successfully guiding them to completion in collaboration with various specialist departments. You will bring structure to complex issues, coordinate stakeholders, and ensure that changes are implemented efficiently. If you enjoy taking on responsibility and actively shaping change in a challenging environment, you will find the right framework here.

Your tasks include

  • Strategic design and holistic management of bank-wide transformation projects with a clear focus on digitalisation, IT modernisation and process optimisation.
  • Technical leadership and orchestration of interdisciplinary project teams, as well as professional interface management with specialist departments, IT teams, and external partners.
  • Active management of project success through consistent control of scope, time, budget, and quality, as well as proactive risk management
  • Preparation and presentation of status reports and decision proposals for the project board and senior management
  • Actively contribute to the further development of our project management framework and team standards in order to strengthen our internal centre of excellence for PM.

What you bring with you

  • In-depth understanding of banking processes, current regulations (e.g. MaRisk, DORA) and the challenges of digital transformation in banking
  • Several years of proven success in managing complex, strategic IT projects within the banking and financial services sector.
Confident communication at all levels, as well as the ability to present complex issues clearly, in a structured manner and ready for decision-making – from the development team right up to top management.
Routine application of classic (e.g. PMI, PRINCE2) and agile (e.g. Scrum, SAFe) project management methodologies, ideally evidenced by certifications.
  • The ability to translate strategic visions into concrete roadmaps and to manage their operational implementation with pragmatism and a focus on results.
  • Additional advantages would be:
A sound understanding of modern IT architectures and technology trends to be able to operate at eye level with IT experts and architects.
High degree of personal responsibility, a drive to shape things and the willingness to take the lead even in critical situations.
A successfully completed degree, preferably in Business Informatics, Economics, or a comparable qualification
Business fluent in German and English
