In 2022, 11 organisations from the fields of environmental protection, digital policy, development policy and science joined forces with a committed community to host the second Bits & Trees conference on digitalisation and sustainability. We are convinced that political changes are needed to ensure that digitalisation makes a better contribution to urgent social and ecological change.
We are united by an integrative understanding of sustainability and the will to shape a future in which digital change plays a positive role and supports and protects people, livelihoods and the environment.

A talk on sustainability, technology, society, growth and ways into the future. The aim is to critically analyze the use of digital technology in the current context of global injustice and the collapse of ecosystems. How can we strive for and promote a sustainable, green and democratic digital future? The challenges are enormous and include the digital world’s hunger for energy, exploitative global practices of companies and governments and the current debate on the socially acceptable use of „AI“. How can we achieve emancipation from self-destructive processes towards a sustainable and a just future?
